This was an amazing look into what was involved with compiling the first dictionaries. The book does include some real people and incidents, but many were fictitious characters and events. The time that male scholars invested was admirable … compiling the words and definitions that were eventually ruled as approved or not by the editor. The author’s attention to detail and the research done on the subject of the work of creating early editions of the Oxford English Dictionary were well done.
