I am a huge fan of books about WWII. This was a different view in that it focused on the people of Ireland during the war. To be honest, I was appalled at the level of bigotry against the Irish lads who chose to fight with Britain. The dual time line was a positive aspect of the book as well as being left in the dark about part of Aileen’s present day situation.
