If Not for You (by Debbie Macomber) … an example of how circumstances affect our lives

This was a nice and simple read. The characters were well developed and you found yourself caring about their lives and what happened to them. I have to say, though, that Sam simply got on my nerves. He had a chip the size of a boulder on his shoulder and while it would slip off every now and then, he would manage to haul it back up and slam it back down on his shoulders. I wanted to tell him to get over himself. Beth was such a nice person and she did not deserve any of the ugliness that Sam demonstrated.

Beth’s mom was a real pill. But her Aunt Sunshine made up for her mother’s controlling manner. She was loving and supportive of Beth and the decisions she made. Of course, Beth was too nice to tell her mother how she really felt.

in the end, I think Beth’s influence on Sam made him aware of the baggage he was carrying around. I hope he finally saw the light and realized what truly mattered in his life and that he had been a jerk and a fool.
