This book has you wondering whether you’re going crazy! Are things really as they seem … or are there just more lies and manipulations?
The author does a great job of sucking you into the lives of Maggie, Noah, Caleb…and then Anna. The excitement the family experiences is soon overcome with shadows of doubt and difficulties. The reader is taken back and forth from the present to the past and from the viewpoint of both Maggie and Noah. This allows you to understand how each of them views what they are experiencing and feeling. And while you know what’s really going on behind the scenes, you are sometimes irritated that they can’t figure out if they’re being manipulated.
The one negative thing I can say is that the ending and the resolution to all of the drama/trauma is a little too quickly resolved. It also seemed that the behavior of the one character who puts the ending into place was a little too convenient.
In the end, there were so many issues going on and not enough meat in the story to make it a really good read. I had really looked forward to reading this book because it received so much hype, but I have to be honest and say that it wasn’t one of my favorites. So glad I was able to check out the e-book from the library so that I didn’t pay money for the book!
